Helping in Addiction Recovery

When I think of being of service it brings to mind how important it is to give back to the addict who is still suffering, and more than that to give back to anyone who needs help. Whether you have 1 day or 1 year we all have something to contribute. I know for myself that  when I am able to step outside of myself and try to be helpful in whatever way I can be it puts me in a positive mindset and enables me to feel connected to those around me. It can be as simple as helping my sister with her philosophy paper, to sending a text to my parents to see how they are doing, or just listening to someone when they are going through a rough time. I will always be grateful to the people who took the time to look past my defects and flaws and helped me to see that there is another way to live. I think that being able to help someone find their way to living a life that is worthwhile must be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. I hope that one day I can take someone through the steps and help them along their own journey to recovery and that they can help someone else in turn so that there will always be a place to find support and sobriety.
