Gratitude Helps Me Stay In The Moment

My need for instant gratification is still an ongoing thing, even while being in treatment. Having that struggle makes it very easy for me to focus on what I don’t have, instead of being grateful for what I do. What I have noticed when I am in this ungrateful mindset is that it is very easy for me to get negative and stay negative. When I feel this way, nothing will ever be enough or good enough to make me feel satisfied. But on the opposite end of that, when I am able to pause and think of all the good things that have opened over my year in treatment, I feel like a completely different person. Being grateful helps me to stay in the moment and take things one day at a time. I feel like I get more enjoyment out of the little things that happen throughout my day. Remaining grateful helps me to stay out of a depressive mindset and I feel like an overall happier person.
