For me, music is better than a drug. When I listen to music my mind focuses on what I’m thinking in that exact moment. Music helps me process thoughts that pop up when I hear the song of choice. In recovery, my choice of music has changed. I’ve grown comfortable to different sounds that I wasn’t comfortable listening to in active addiction. Music is the closest I get to meditation. It helps make the day better. I rely on music. I use it as a positive outlet to help me get to new plain of thoughts. The way a certain sound can make you feel a type of way is amazing. One moment you are feeling something, then a song comes on and you feel a completely different way. Music is an amazing thing. In recovery, music helps me see things I can’t see on my own without it. Today, music is my passion.
